How is asking a colleague to help interpret an email in a professional setting ‘gossip’?

everything :
Gossip (in moderation of course) can allow people to stay safe, validate and compare notes on situations they are unsure about in the workplace. Gossip for gossip’s sake (irrelevant info) is not ok.

whilst the example might initially be asking for help, it can easily lead to gossiping. the sentiment is that gossip is the backbone of information sharing and its how our ancestors communicated.

That example isn’t gossip, that’s seeking input from a colleague. All gossip in the workplace is toxic

This is not an example of gossip, this is an example of working in an office environment. Gossip is talking for good or bad about others

This is a wild take. Gossiping is talking negatively about someone behind their back, how is that ever helpful? It’s not about interpreting emails?

That’s definitely not gossip. Gossip is talking about others and repeating rumours. People definitely bond over it but surely it’s always toxic

disclaimer at the bottom of workplace emails stating the email is meant for the recipient only. Its a breach of confidentiality if you ask your colleague to read an email not addressed to them. -HR

Gossip by nature is never positive. Gossip is toxic and effective communication is good. I don’t agree with your comments here

it's still toxic and corrosive if you're the one they're talking about.
