The biggest problem with laws relating to dogs in the UK is the complete and utter lack of enforcement. When was the last time anyone was fined for beaching any of the dog laws?

When an owner says 'don't worry, he/she is friendly!', it tells me enough about them as a person. I now turn & walk the opposite direction 🤷♀️

I’ve had loads of “don’t worry he’s friendly” dogs run up to my horse 🙄 have had a few nasty falls because of this. One horse has been attacked by dogs so is terrified of them.

only thing is, when I'm walking my pup many people let their dogs run up to me and my husky. even when I'm trying to train with him

In Sweden we have a leash law within certain areas and during certain times of the year. This does not stop people from unleashing their dogs in those areas anyway. It seams like some dog owners (1/2)

I get the 'dog should be on the lead' quite often. close control is not quite a good as was, as Jess is going a bit deaf & her eye sight isn't so good, so recall can see her going to someone else...

As a veterinarian in the States, great explanation. We still occasionally see the results of people not paying attention to leash laws in our area (dog fights and injuries).

My springer didn’t need a lead and I always had total control. She came to me as a pup. I now have two rescue dachshunds who only come off lead in a safe totally deserted place.

My old BC's were hardly ever on a lead, they had immaculate recall and understood hand gestures. They were out on leads in their senior years as their eyesight and hearing were failing them 🌈🐾

Up until now I’ve always had dogs that responded 💯to hand signals and voice. Now I have an Akita. She stays on lead always. Sure she’s trained but know your dog - she’s an Akita. Need I say more? 😂

I always say for the my dogs friendly crowd…Would you like some random stranger come right up and say hello and hang round you ? No? Don’t expect dogs to like that either

I hate the don't worry my dogs friendly, as my 2 dogs hate off leash dogs running up to them. they r on leash due to still training with recall

My dog has to stay on a lead as his recall isn’t good yet but I do use a long line ware possible so he get abit more freedom while I work on it

I get told I'm too cautious with my pup and to let him off lead but this has confirmed I'm doing the right thing. I do not trust him with all these aspects.

it depends on local laws some places have lead laws and some places have maximum dogs per person on a walk laws

Well said Sean.The amount of times I've had to yell at someone to recall their dog as it's running towards mine and heard "he/she is friendly" drives me mad!.I shout 'well mine isn't!'
