Publius Clodius Pulcher (93 BC – 52 BC) was a controversial Roman politician from the influential patrician gens Claudia, known for his populist views, radical reforms, and scandalous private life. ⚖️ Despite his patrician background, Clodius was adopted into a plebeian family so he could run for the office of tribune of the people, which he used to pass laws that undermined aristocratic power. 🗳️ Clodius is most famous for the scandal in 62 BC, when he disguised himself as a woman to sneak into the women-only Bona Dea religious festival, strictly forbidden to men. The festival was held in the home of Julius Caesar, whose wife Pompeia was the host.
