I agree/disagree with this. I’m fine with a refundable deposit, but that won’t stop me from booking multiple places just in case- I don’t see the issue if your cancelling within the time policy

This is a direct result of not allowing enough walk-ins. Most people don't want to book a spot at a restaurant far in advance, most only decide they want to go the day of

Why some places require a cc, and u pay if u don’t cancel before that day. It really effects smaller spaces when u don’t show up. That’s a space that another person could have had
