@keds_economist: What is the Social Security Fairness Act? It gets at a small and complicated provision that deals with public sector workers. Fairness here is tough. I explain. #socialsecurity #benefits #taxes #pensions #gpo #teachers #unions
I feel like I should get college credit for watching all of your videos start to finish. (that's a compliment)

Fairness? Since I paid into social security over the years with additional jobs due to the low pay of teaching in Texas, why am I penalized? I won't be rich by any stretch of the imagination. I should

In NY teachers pay into the pension system AND SS. We pay for both, we should get both.

It's possible for several ex wives to get Soc security off of 1 ex-spouse without having paid into it. Isn't it stuff like this that is contributing to it running out of money?

Please do a video on Medicare. It seems like it’s socialism for seniors. I need to understand it better.

My wife worked for 22 years paying into Social Security, then was a teacher for 27 years. When she filed for SS she only got $178.00 because of WEP.

I have 8-10 years of zeros as a teacher from windfall l. drew out my pension after 5 years into teaching when I fell into unemployment. Will the windfall affect me with a higher SS payment now

I don’t think it works that way. I worked in a social security paying job for over 30 years. My sister only worked for 15 years. We both made about the same on average, but my SS pay is much higher

I paid into SS for 30 yrs then at 50, I started teaching in a public school. I won’t get a full pension or all my social security. I’ve paid into both, so I should get to draw on both.

I am a female CFO of a private wealth management company and I LOVE your content! I recently traveled to Puerto Rico and learned they have zero social security benefits even though they pay in! 🤯

I love the idea you alluded to of no spousal benefit but instead build contingencies into SS to account for caregiving years. Caregiving isn’t tied to marital status (or gender) and IS a job

My SS was reduced because of small pension income from the country I lived in before I came to US. This income is none of their business. I get dinged by this, & by not having 35 years of SS income.

My mom has been really frustrated. She gets state pension. Dad would get 50% of her pension as a death benefit. She’d get no death benefit if he passes. Her sis gets more in SSA as non-working spouse

If husband paid into SS & wife never did. I don't understand why they'd receive spousal benefits. With that reasoning - both my parents worked & paid into it - yet my Mom only receives hers (more)....

Imo do away with means testing, pay out what is needed to live in a given area minus recurring payments (pension, lawsuit payouts, etc). People need to be able to afford food, housing, and medical 1/2

This exact situation happened to my husband’s grandma. She had her spouse benefit reduced because she was a sewing teacher with a meager pension, she does not have a lot of money and outlived her husband by 20 years and counting. Feels extremely unfair.

As a community college employee who pays into SURS & not SS, but has SS credits from other work, I would like my pension to not cancel out my future (very small) SS payments.

Seems like a pension should be an added benefit and just collect SS taxes from teachers like any other worker, then give them the full SS at retirement
