But as a former manager, in that situation I would've figured out a way to make it work. Pay it as a bonus, code those hours at differential pay since they were out of schedule, there's always a way.

In my state they can deny paying you OT if it’s not approved. You’ll get paid for the extra hours but at straight pay, not OT pay.
