Koliva are delicious but never considered dessert. They are handed out in little bags after memorial services so that those attending can wish for God to forgive the dead. Also we never use honey.

Albanian Orthodox we don't do it as a desert in Christmas but we give 1-2 spoons of it in little cups after the burial

In Serbia we use this during "Slava". When guests arrive it's custom to greet them with Koliva ("Koljivo" in Serbian) and a glass of red wine, it's a way to pay respect to the family's patron Saint.
