Yellow Pea Dhal Recipe (more affectionately known as yellow dhal curry) 3 tbsp oil 3 tbsp butter 1 tsp turmeric 1 tsp jeera seeds 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 cinnamon stick 3 dry red chilies 2 cups pea dhal, boiled until smooth (I liquidize it after its boiled, until smooth and creamy) 1 small onion finely sliced 1 small tomato, skinned and chopped 1 sprig curry leaves 6 cloves of garlic, sliced On medium high heat, add oil to a pot. Add the jeera, cumin seeds and cinnamon stick and star anise, allow the seeds to fry when the seeds start to pop add the onion, dried chillies and curry leaves. Fry until translucent then add the tomatoes, garlic and fresh chilies, fry for another 30 seconds. Add the turmeric cook for a minute, then add some water and the boiled dhal and salt to taste add butter and coriander . (If there is still water in the dhal you will not need to add water, if the dhal is too thick, add ½ cup of water and allow to cook) Cook for 5-7 minutes. Garnish with coriander.
