I'd respectfully argue that the point still stands. If community building is something you care about (key point), then doing so even in hostile/volatile environments is a necessary form of protest and activitism. It isn't suppose to be easy. That is to say, people with the lowest social capital in the community (i.e. bigots) either have to raise their capital by changing anti-social behavior and assimilating or leave due to alienation.

this is real on many levels. sometimes its not safe- i let a neighbor use my bathroom once+bought him food cus he was locked out… subsequently got stalked & harassed by him for weeks😐

There are trump flags Everywhere out here, and one of my neighbors flew a flag with a very specific german hate symbol on it for about a month, im not playing roulette out here. I vaguely trust exactly two of my neighbors to not be Awful, and thats because i know them from somewhere else and happen to live near them 😅
