@equinesheathhygienist: What is smegma?! Smegma is something the horse naturally produces and needs, built up of dead skin cells, dirt, sweat and oils. Along with sebaceous glands that produce something called sebrum (essentially helps keep the horses coat waterproof) which also contributes to build up and smegma forming within the horse. It accumulates within the male horses sheath and if left to build up over time it can cause irritation or discomfort.
