maybe I'm incorrect in this, but if I have a wrong shade. I would rather go too light than too dark. I can always always darken it up with bronzer/blush etc but not so much if the shade is too dark.

exactly. foundation is the BASE. especially if it's a full coverage one so contour, bronze, blush, concealer etc add the depth to the face

A high coverage foundation in the right shade will always wash you out. That’s why blush, bronzer and contour exist. I have the opposite problem, people always match me darker and peachier/pinker
