There's no difference in muscle gain from a 1 second lowering and a 4 second lowering. If you like going slower because it helps you feel in control, go for it. I do on certain movements. But avoid the trap of slow speeds for more "time under tension" or more growth. It'll probably hinder you more than help. As a general rule, I am for a 1-2 second lowering. But as long as I'm able to keep things consistent between reps and have control, it's one of the last things I'll think about, if ever.
