If it were so easy to cure these ailments, evolution would have done it a long time ago. There are likely tradeoffs where by improving one property, you make something else worse.

Just because a complex trait like substance use or IQ is partly genetic doesn't mean we know the specific genes. Multiple interacting genes are involved.
