I think he was proud to be a death eater because he was finally able to do something that made his family proud, but I think he was to young to live up to the things that came with being a death eater such as killing people etc..

He was not forced to become a death eater, if he didnt he would have still been alive, youre mixing it up with killing dumbledore, he always strived to become one and when he became one he was proud
