It really depends on the purpose of magic in the world of the story. Soft magic has a place, it's just a little difficult to use, but it doesn't always need concrete and established rules

EXACTLY even magic systems should stay within their pre established boundaries. it's much more interesting to see a creative solution in the confines rather than something new that's never seen again

This is only acceptable if doing so is done in great distress and then has actual consequences. For example, MC bypasses limits to escape death trap= MC passes out/bleeds/can’t use magic until rested.
