@greymatt3r: it is such a masterpiece ill never get over it. lyrics: “Policemen swear to God, love seeping from their guns I know my friends and I would probably turn and run If you get out of bed, come find us heading for the bridge Bring a stone, all the rage, my little dark age I grieve in stereo, the stereo sounds strange I know that if you hide, it doesn't go away If you get out of bed and find me standing all alone Open-eyed, burn the page, my little dark age” explanation: zyzyx_music (on reddit): I think it’s about being depressed about the state of our society. He’s talking about people who believe in crazy things, people who make up 50% of the United States. They are in denial of systemic racism. (“The engines failed again, all limits of disguise”) They are soon to take away a woman’s right to an abortion, which will lead to many botched abortions and deaths. They believe an invisible man in the sky is watching us and use that to justify hateful beliefs, such as thinking lgbt people shouldn’t exist. They vote for people who to them are a “funny meme.” ahem trump ahem (“Giddy with delight, seeing what’s to come.” And “the humors not the same coming from denial”, obviously about climate change) They deny the crushing reality that capitalism is destroying our mental health and causing global warming. “Forgiving who you are for what you stand to gain” is talking about people who turn their back on all these issues, and mgmt is trying to forgive them for their lack of empathy and intellect. Mgmt can’t escape them because they are everywhere. (“I know that if you hide it doesn’t go away”) Open up your phone. you’ll be reminded that there are millions of people who think differently than you, people who think you are the crazy one. (“It makes you want to jump off a bridge with a massive stone. (“On the bridge, bring a stone”) Little dark age is a reference to depression, it’s like realizing the world is in a horribly dark place but you feel overwhelmingly alone because everyone is in denial. This is what the song means to me, and I would bet a million dollars that it means the same thing to mgmt. it’s fairly obvious what it’s about if you understand the true state of our society. But to a lot of people it probably just passes over their heads and they think it’s a cool sounding song. it’s funny you posted this bc I was driving around and this song came on and I was like holy shit, what a fucking classic. One of the most relatable songs I’ve heard, especially now that I’m older (the album came out 4 years ago) and understand the implications.” #littledarkage #mgmt #littledarkagemgmt

I agree on the general idea you have (talking about this part of the song) but I think there are things in wich we disagree , like for me the beginning "policeman swear to God, love sipping from their guns" is a general call out to the violence we as a society accept and carry on, after that everything from "I know my friends and I" to "my little dark age" is more like telling the listener to wake up and join some kind of revolution but the funny thing is that they use "stones" so even the revolution can't be done peacefully

I love this analysis and think more people need to listen to the lyrics but this whole song is about Donald trump and him becoming president. They actually wrote this after he won in November 2016 I believe. The stereo sounding strange is about findin out the news but also media control of the govt. police brutality and standing up against it but also wanting to run. The grieving of hearing the news and how trying to pretend this isn’t happening doesn’t make it so. The fact that people elected trump is real and this is what we are living in

From the way I understood the song is using a poetic imaginary way to talk about the themes of fear, rebellion and self discovery. It's reflecting how the people navigate through there little dark age
