@treybodirt: I let my diesel idle all day. How do you handle yours? Let me know in the comments. Am I right or wrong? #diesel #construction #farmtok #mechaniclife #dieselmechanic #dodge #dodgeram #skidsteer
He’s absolutely correct. That is why they all have hour meters in them. They know when to change the engine oil by the hours they are run.

It’s cheaper to let a diesel run all day than crank it up 10 times a day

If they can’t idle why do they have remote start?😂

The mechanic :
In Dave’s defense, he was talking about plugging the particular filter on the exhaust. A lot of idling is bad for that. Now, in your case, running it hard all day will keep it in good shape.

It’s not the def that he’s talking about. It’s the egr. Letting them idle will clog the egr and dpf but then regen mode kinda cleans the dpf out but not the egr. Just delete it then it can run all day

Diesel mechanic here, you have just been lucky. idling these new diesels is not good. Our canine diesels need new soot filters about every fifteen thousand miles because they idle so much.

this old farmers gonna find out real quick Dave's right. if you let a modern diesel idle alot you get egr problems. unless during that day you also work it hard and are lucky enough to clean it out

Yep, 14 6.7 3500 Ram Longhorn, 260k miles, starts at 4 a.m., shuts down at 7 or 8 at night. Don't want my seat getting cold. 😁

Even Banks Diesel says Dave is full of it. I ran my 2013 Duramax, let it warm up 20 minutes during the winter everyday, 296k miles and the DPF finally needed to be replaced.

A diesel with a def system is what he’s talking about, I’ve seen when they’ve taken them apart how much carbon buildup there is

Dave is talking about half a million miles, not two hundred thousand. you would never let a million dollar combine sit and idle. called wear and tear.
