I wish comments could be longer! I moved to Seattle from the Oakland three years ago. Seattle lacks confidence most of all. The pride in being unfriendly also hurts any momentum towards community and culture building.

I think that Seattle currently is all about the music and food scene. The musicianship in the city is as good as since the grunge era. The foodie community is huge and rivals the best anywhere. 40 yr

Belltown is having a big arts resurgence! Galleries opening all over. Basecamp is doing a lot to push that. Suddenly there’s a tattoo shop on almost every corner near me too. But also I agree.

Born and raised in Seattle. I think we still have a culture as a city, but it has definitely changed. Much of what survives is tied to nature: cherry blossoms, salmon runs, parks, water.

Most Amazon workers don’t live in the city. Like some don’t even know the Seattle area. I told one guy I was going to Queen Anne and he had no idea what I was talking about.

We lost it early 2000’s because most the people that can afford to live in the metro area are transitional tech workers that leave every 4 years. Been here 20+ and moved to Columbia city.

I think the growth, transplants, general lack of care, Amazon, tech and various other things have pushed the heart of Seattle out. It’s not the same. I love Seattle but wish it hadn’t changed.

It just takes so long to drive anywhere now, and the parking is a mess. I am older so I know my attitude has changed too. But we once could zip around Seattle to visit friends, bars, restaurants.

Agree! The city I moved to 24 years ago is literally unrecognizable. Blocks upon blocks of cheaply built condos selling at jaw-dropping prices; neighborhoods sterilized of their character and charm, iconic businesses lost. But still love PNW!
