4 things I did that completely transformed my therapy experience: 1️⃣ I stopped being lazy about choosing a therapist. I used to go with the first referral I could get. Now I filter for credentials, read bios, and interview them to make sure we vibe. 2️⃣ I prepared before my first session. I created a note in my phone and dumped everything that was affecting me. I reflected on what didn’t work in the past, and I walked into therapy ready to co-create a plan. 3️⃣ I added structure to every session. No more “so what do you want to talk about?” We have a flow that starts with weekly check-ins, reviews my homework, revisits our plan, and ends with EMDR work + actionable goals. 4️⃣ I actually do the work outside of therapy. That’s the part I used to ignore. Now I integrate my homework and practice what I learn during the week—that’s where real change happens. If therapy hasn’t worked for you in the past… don’t give up. It might not be the therapy - it might just be the approach. Save this so you can revisit it later, especially before starting with a new therapist.
