@el2raw: Just got done reading “Pocho” by José Antonio Villareal and it was honestly such a great read. The book is 187 pages, a pretty short read. The book is about a boy named Richard who is growing up in California after his family migrated from Mexico in the Depression-Era. We follow along as he grows up struggling between two completely different cultures and identities. He is fascinated by many new ideas in this new country, but back at home is smothered with his homelands ideology and customs. The most interesting aspect for me was the dynamic of his family. Especially between his mother and father. We also get a look into their perspectives of the assimilation to this new culture. This struggle of assimilation is a concept that many of us Latinos can relate to in even todays times. Onto the next read: “The Road to Tamazunchale” by Ron Arias. S/o @SANTOS SANCHEZ for the recommendations 📚 Came across his page on my FYP just as I was searching for new books to read. These book are part of my plan to familiarize and educate myself with more Latino/Chicano Literature. Side comment: I bought this book on Ebay and cannot believe this was an Elementary School read. This book was pretty deep and would have turned my life around haha! #fyp #foryoupage #BookTok
