in 1987 I lived alone in half a dbl and had a car payment on 5 an hour. So under a thousand a month. Now my car payment is half that amount. My home taxes are 2 of those months.

My dad was an electrician in 77’ making $3.50/hr and my mom stayed home. They bought their first home the year they got married. I’ve been married 18 years and still can’t afford a home.

My dad paid a mortgage and raised multiple kids for years off of his wages at a sewing machine shop. He repaired and sold machines, my mom was a SAHM. Throughout the 70’s and 80s, my parents owned homes and had cars off of one income. Working the same type of jobs today, a single person would starve.

My parents (b. 1934 & 1941) built a house on 7 acres in Silicon Valley and built a cabin on a double lot in Lake Tahoe and THEY WERE BOTH HIGH SCHOOL ART TEACHERS. Like, what.

My dad made $1.65/hr at his first job out of hs. His rent was $55/mo. IMAGINE!!! Imagine rent costing just 25% of your income from a menial job at the old sugar factory

I lived in a 4th floor walk up in an iffy neighborhood in NYC. My roommate in the LR & me in the BR. “Kitchen” in a closet w/camper sink & fridge. $400. No $ for car.

that's why the minimum should $25 or more for a decent wages that may be able to pay housing, groceries but will not help to purchase a home now u have to a year 104k

my parents rented the same house for my entire childhood (82-99) and when they moved out of that house, they were paying >500. for a 3bd 2 bath HOUSE w a fence yard. and they yell at me for $ issues

my dad was a grocery stocker in 1979-1982. he bought a house on that. and then multiple rentals. my mom worked barely part time. and they had kids too

they also forget that we elder millennial actually remember when we could get by. 20 years ago I was able to pay rent, utilities, gas, food,etc. and daycare as a single mother on $11/hr

my mom worked at a hardware store and my dad was a nurses aid. they got a farmhouse on 7 acres adjacent to a national forest for 30k in the early 80s

wait USA people always say taxes ate higher in Europe? I make about 25k €/yr. my tax is about 10-12%. yet that gives me education, healthcare etc. So taxes are not higher but we get so much more without extra payments.

Even in the ‘90’s I bought a house while making just 1.5x min wage and lived ok. Entirely impossible today.
