Sweden ran into a problem because a lot of countries don't track exact days of birth. Some years have run out of ID numbers on January and July 1st because of this.

Sweden solved the century-part by changing the - to + in personal numbers when a person turns hundred! From yymmdd-xxxx to yymmdd+xxxx. Most places use yyyymmddxxxx instead, though :(

in America we just give them a code for where they're born, then the rest is down the list of numbers. so 111(area)-11(group 11)-1111(randomly generated number) would be the social 111-11-1111

We use the same identification numbers for companies, but replace the first letter with 4,5,6 or 7. (4 replaces 0, 5=1, 6=2, 7=3) so you can see when a company was “born” with that.

Finland has a pretty similar system. 1800s have +, 1900s have - and 2000s have A in between the date of birth (ddmmyy) and the 4-digit end part.

Honestly love the ID system in Norway. Nothing is centralized in Switzerland, here I only have to remember my fødselsnummer instead of 28372 logins.

Norway has ddmmyy-xxxxx where the first x determines century(0-4 is 1900s) the third x is gender and the last 2 are calculated. There’s also some rules about help-numbers and d-numbers(temporary)

We have almost the same system in Finland but the century is the ”dash”. Older people have the dash and the people after 2000 have an A there.

I'm not sure how french ID numbers work, but for social security it's 01(male)/02(female)-MM/YY-county number of birth- and then random numbers, I think?
