If hitting the goal is really important to you, then I'd skip to a scene you're excited about. Don't worry about if it's perfect or even if it'll stay in the manuscript.

I always encourage authors to journal as their characters to help them figure out their direction. Or just write the scenes you’re passionate about. You got this girl!

What A.L said. If a fight (argument, love scene whatever) happens write a fight (argument love scene) ensues then pick it up after that is over. Do that for any place you are stuck.

When I get that way I back up and reread. normally this has me adding in more details and thoughts. Then by the time I work myself back to where I was I find myself knowing exactly what I want

Ask yourself why you’re blocked/stuck. The answer will help you choose a solution. Do you need thinking time? Do you need to brainstorm? Someone to bounce ideas off of? Is it a fight/spice/travel…

Do you have a scene later in the book that keeps playing out in your mind? write that instead. When m brain stops braining in the direction I think it should go I just follow it.

you don't have to write in order 👀. If you're stuck on something, jump to the next chapter or the one after that. It'll help you get those words out 🖤

I skipped past the chapters I knew needed more thought and got to the ones I was eager to write first. It actually helped me sort out those harder scenes & now I consider them some of the best. 😊

Also, sometimes just skipping the section you’re stuck at and moving on to the next can help unstick your brain and keep your word count going, then when you go back through for revisions, you can tackle it then…just make sure it doesn’t become a plot hole! I’ve done that and it was a PAIN 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

Try not to be too hard on yourself. We’ve all been there and it sucks. Every now and then, I use GPT as a critique partner or as a developmental editor sort of. I’ll ask it to read a chapter and go through it with a critical eye and help me see where I can improve. If I’m stuck on a certain scene, like I need two characters to make a solid, honest pact by the end of the scene and what I’ve got just doesn’t feel true to the characters, I’ll ask it to give me some pointers. Its ideas can really help get the creative juices flowing again.

I usually get tripped up when it come to making decisions. So I’ll usually plot out both (make little outlines) and see which I like better

if to punish yourself for not reaching a goal your subconsciously reinforcing yourself to not reach it. if you are hard on yourself when you have other priorities you are subconsciously training yourself to put your writing second. if you are unwilling to give yourself credit for everything you've accomplished outside of writing and completeing the writing you have done, you are reinforcing it to yourself. remember you are only one person and even if you havent been 'as productive ' as you want

Sometimes I get stuck when I’m not feeling the plot the way it is planned out. I had to tell myself that it was ok to change where I planned on it going, and that gets me out of the slump.
