Hey I can say conclusively that computer literacy is not being taught in schools because schools ‘expect’ it to be taught at home. Unfortunately most people do not have a dedicated home PC-

It's the equivalent of saying, crayons is the same as oil pastels. They are both art products, but they are not the same. computer programs and apps are both software, but they are entirely different.

It’s not the same at all! Chalk and pencils are for writing/drawing and that’s it. Computers can do so much more , and our society is dependent on them.

Computer Education isn't taught especially since much of the schools in the US use tablets or Chromebooks(just a large tablet in my opinion)

My last job had to add computer teaching to the on boarding because the majority of the new hires now struggled with basic Windows operation despite having the subject matter knowledge.

Like I understand this is kinda how we evolve but also believe that nothing ever going to happen so those skills are useless is naïve… like I think everyone should know how to do “hard research”

Reminds me of a job I rocked up to. They complained they manually had to write down figures to transfer to other computer. I’m like, isn’t that a printer sitting under it. “Oh we don’t have wifi to connect it” and “we have to wait for tech to do their round and fix it”. YOU PLUG IT INTO THE COMPUTER! They were waiting 6 months for somebody to drive 14 hour round trip because they didn’t know you could physically plug it in.

While I think everyone should at least be able to look up how to trouble shoot basic issues, it’s not necessary for everyone to know more complex things like coding if you don’t need it regularly.(1/?

None of the kids in my life know how computers work which is insane to me. In my former job I was the driving force in making sure my client and his younger brothers all knew just how to type.
