In Italian culture, she is a witch who was visited by the 3 Wise Men and invited on their journey to give a gift to the king who was born (Jesus). She initially declined, due to the fact she was too busy cleaning her house, but then changed her mind and decided to try to follow after them. She of course was too late to give him a gift and couldn’t find him, so instead she visits all children while they sleep and leaves them gifts from her basket because she never knows which one might be the baby king. It’s a tradition I grew up with and it’s just so sweet sharing a part of my culture with my littles 🥹. #befana #nonna #italians #italian
