In these verses from Surah Taha, Allah the Most Glorified and Most High speaks directly to Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) for the first time and tells him, “I have chosen you, so listen carefully to what is revealed.” Allah introduces Himself, saying, “Indeed, I am Allah, there is no god but Me. So worship Me and establish prayer to remember Me.” Then Allah begins to prepare Musa for his mission by asking him, “What is that in your right hand, O Musa?” Musa replies in a humble and familiar tone, saying, “It is my staff, I lean on it, I beat down leaves for my sheep with it, and I have other uses for it.” He doesn’t just say what it is, he shows a personal connection to it, like something he trusts and depends on in his daily life. Then Allah tells him, “Throw it down, O Musa,” and when he does, it turns into a slithering snake. Musa instantly becomes afraid and turns to run. But Allah says, “Do not be afraid, take it, and We will return it to its former state.” Allah is not scolding him but gently teaching him: even when something he relies on suddenly changes or becomes frightening, he should still trust Allah completely. This moment becomes a powerful lesson in tawakkul, to place full trust in Allah especially when facing something terrifying or unknown. It shows that fear is human, even for a prophet, but Allah’s guidance replaces that fear with strength. Allah then gives him another sign, that if he places his hand under his arm, it will come out glowing white, unharmed, another miracle to reassure him. This conversation reveals Allah’s mercy, His closeness, and how He strengthens His chosen ones with signs, comfort, and confidence. It’s not just about miracles, it’s about building trust, faith, and preparing Musa to face something far greater with Allah by his side.
