The complete story Chapter 2 Dusekkar made his way to the main room of his house. To his right were tall glass windows, and below them lay his garden. The moonlight shone through the glass, lighting the dark hallways of Dusekkar's mansion. He held the egg tightly in his hands—the one he had found on his desk—and thought back to how much Taph admired Telamon’s egg. Why not give him one too? he wondered. Then, he heard something outside—a rustling sound? He glanced quickly down at the garden, scanning the surrounding area. Then he saw something. He focused on it, squinting since he'd left his glasses in the bedroom. And then… he recognized who it was—or at least, who he thought it was. “Huh? Taph? What is he doing here?” Dusekkar whispered to himself. He hurried down the stairs to confirm it. “I might be mistaken… my eyes don’t work well at night,” Dusekkar thought. Creak... The garden door creaked louder than expected. Dusekkar winced at the sound, hoping the other didn't hear it. He quickly looked back to the spot where he had seen the figure. Sure enough, it was Taph—gazing up at the night sky. “Taph?” he called out. But the other didn’t seem to hear him. He called again, this time louder, “Taph!” The figure seemed to snap out of a trance and looked toward the voice. When he recognized Dusekkar, he simply waved and turned his gaze back to the sky. Dusekkar walked over and sat beside him, still holding the egg. He, too, looked up at the night sky. A comfortable silence fell between them—until Dusekkar broke it. “So... mind telling me why you're here this late at night?” he asked, glancing down at the egg in his hands. Taph didn’t answer. Instead, he pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Dusekkar. Written on it were the words: “I’m just passing by… I don’t intend to stay long.” Dusekkar squinted, taking his time to read it. His eyes were blurry without his glasses. “Oh really? That’s new,” he chuckled. He noticed Taph was now staring at the egg in his hands. Dusekkar chuckled again and offered the egg to Taph. “Do you want it? I think it’s fertilized. I found it on my desk not too long ago… I was actually planning to give it to you tomorrow. But since you're here, why not now? Haha—I wouldn’t miss the chance.” Slowly, Taph took the egg and stared at it for a long moment. While he did, Dusekkar turned his eyes back to the sky. The full moon glowed brightly above them. And then, without realizing, he said aloud, “The moon is so beautiful…” He didn’t notice that Taph was now staring at him—intensely.
