The first human-controlled multi-touch device was created by Nimish Mehta at the University of Toronto in 1982 (25 years before the iPhone release). While he was the first to develop a functional multi-touch system, it's important to acknowledge that the concept of touchscreens itself has a longer history. Classic Apple… or was it classic Jobs, it remains unclear. Either way, MO is Apple's trademark - find amazing piece of technology out there in the wild, that's relatively obscure at the particular moment in time, appropriate it (most often that meant steal or rip it off for peanuts), give it sleek, shiny design and advertise it as your own invention.

It’s always quite ironic to see Jobs introducing the iPhone when he didn’t believe in it until his team made a mockup. It barely worked for the keynote because he gave his approval so late
