In the uk a lot of people become bartenders by starting out in pubs. Pub bartending is typically lower skill and teaches you the basics before moving on to bars and higher end restaurants

i got lucky .. i was a regular at a bar .. it got busy one night i helped take out trash and clean off tables .. then they asked me to Barback .. then finally asked me to bartend ...

Took me two years to get on bar at my first place. Don’t expect to be moved up within 6 months. Patience is key. A lot of bartenders have their spot and you have to wait for one to open usually.

This, I was 3 months into my job as a server and bad manger loved my personality at tables and was like have you ever thought of bartending?! And I jumped on it, and picked up sooo many shifts when I first started now a year into it and absolutely love it

That’s EXACTLY how I got my first bartending shift and became a bartender. I also took home empty bottles and asked for a pour spout and I would practice my pour over and over.
