@feared.texas: A Year Ago, Today – On January 11, 2024, the Texas National Guard and Florida Highway Patrol took control of Shelby Park, after Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed an emergency declaration to close the park. In his declaration, Abbott cited the Mexico–United States border crisis and the need to secure the border. The Texas National Guard blocked U.S. Border Patrol agents from patrolling the area, which the Border Patrol had been using to hold migrants. The Texas National Guard seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, and is denying access to Border Patrol agents as the state continues to try and wrestle border enforcement away from the Biden Administration, whose immigration policies have been a frequent target of Gov. Greg Abbott. The Texas Military Department continues to hold the line in Shelby Park to deter and prevent unlawful entry into the State of Texas. We remain resolute in our actions to secure our border, preserve the rule of law, and protect the sovereignty of our State. At the time, when tension was escalating between Texas and the federal government over border enforcement. Their were raising fears of a looming constitutional crisis and possible Civil War against the federal government and Texas.
