Looks very breakable and basically no better than an old school vtec system. Bmw valvetronic system is wayy better design.

Passat was one of the worst cars I could have into the shop. They’re where always broken in some way or had faulty parts. Cars are made in Japan.

That engine was the first attempt to make a camless engine,10 years on and no success. EA888 was kind ahead of its time from day one but with so many issues from day on,I rebuild them with 25k miles😳
