Your ankles can't support your own weight but you expect the horses ankles to support theirs and yours.

I think they get confused because they see horses pulling heavy stuff but they don't realize there's a difference between pulling and actually having weight directly on its back.

Does this mean elevators are fatphobic too because they have a weight limit?

Som people need to get over themselves. Their enjoyment doesn’t come before the wellbeing of the horse. If you are overweight, you either get heavy enough horse or you don’t ride

Generally speaking 200lbs is when you start to look at the horse’s physical characteristics as offsets. Some horses are massive, young and strong and can easily carry 300lb person. It depends on

All fair, but tell me why the focus in the horseriding community is always on fat people, mostly women and not on tall or muscular men? They might both be too heavy for a horse, but no one cares

Most horse riding places do take weights, it’s good because it means they care for their horses. And if they publicly state that to you, it’s because that’s the way they’re strongest horse can carry

it's crazy to think that horses have a nervous system and musculoskeletal system that can become damage when excess weight is applied, especially when it is for extended periods of time...

while horses vary on the weight they can carry (some being able to carry incredible loads) I still could never feel comfortable letting a horse carry me at the weight I am, it's not fair in any way.

With horses they usually have an absolute MAXIMUM of carrying 20% of their weight so while it does depend on the size of the horse you definitely need to be aware of that when deciding to ride

I was a child who refused to ride ponies or smaller horses and camels because I've been a fat kid.. i was hurt enough I didn't want to hurt those poor animals, it is sad yes, but that's reality.

if we're talking ranch raised for work, that horse can handle well over 300 lbs, but in the way she's talking about, those are show horses and if you're over 210, you have to start being careful
