the reason is because they're too densely muscled, and have very little, if any fat, and therefore can't float. Which is why they can't swim, same thing with chimpanzees

Would’ve been funnier if you said the measurement in Perfect English like Toby Fox saying “Touhou Project” in that one interview.

The way “naturally” is framed leads me to believe there are.. unnatural ways to get them to swim (like being taught or the nefarious option)

Ghost_of_Calamity :
It’s because of the fat content in there bodies being to low where as humans have more fat in there bodies naturally so they can float better and then that leads to swimming

They don’t measure to see if they can swim they measure to see if they can wade which is just walking in water 😂 it said it in the paragraph

this is just a random guess. maybe it's like why ostrichs can't fly. they may just not be physically able to stay afloat.

fun fact, Gorrilas love water... until it falls from the sky then it's the most vial thing they've seen

they have too much muscle to swin, so it's smart of them to want to know how deep
animals that can swin (humans included) might not have the genetic memo of "can't swin need to know depth"

Basically they’re too dense. They have so much dense muscle and their bones are so dense they just sink. Boxer dogs are similar.

bro is gonna be flabbergasted when he learns that camels swim, long distance even, and that sharks probably saw some on their way

They do that so they dont get attacked by crocodiles cause if its deep enough for them to swim in theres probably a croc

swim doesn't always mean swimming like the athlete does sometimes. that sentence imply the gorillas just bathing in the river where almost all of the body part is covered with water

they measure how deep it is to see if they can basically walk across it. they can't swim but they can move in the water without floating or swimming

prob it was like they saw jeremy trying to swim and sank, then oscar grab a big stick and saw it was to half and then search another path
where cesar crosssed and say it was right and do the same

I'd assume it's due to their body composition, similar to how some dog breeds are BUILT for swimming, can swim, and will sink if they touch water

theres this therory that humans almost turned aquatic but stopped mid way cause of many reasons one being we use iodine in our thyroid hormones which is pretty rare on land but not in sea/ocean/rivers

I assume its less “swim” and more stand? Like they lean on one leg and use their arms to sort of propel them like they stand on one leg and “swim”

“wade”, not swim. they just walk under the water as long as the head is in the air

most primates can't swim. it's actually pretty unique to humans which is why there's theories about us becoming semi aquatic and backing out evolution wise
