@denzel_greene: Replying to @YellingSuperBuu Star Wars: The Last Jedi has a TON of divisive moments in the film, but is the Holdo Manuever really as lore breaking as some claim? #greenscreen #starwars #lukeskywalker #starwarstiktok
Asking why the Holdo Manuever wasn't a more common thing is like asking why Kamikaze pilots aren't common irl.

I must be a fool because when I watched the movie the only thought in my brain was.... "Damn. That was AWESOME!"

“Why did no one think of it before?” is a baffling question to me. It’s like, I don’t know… maybe for the same reason *you* never thought of it before; somebody has to be the first.

Not to mention the absolute truth of movie making: it was cool as hell

Makes much more sense now but why didn’t the CIS use this tactic? If the CIS was gonna lose why wouldn’t they at least try? If you just need to be the correct distance wouldn’t a tactical droid be able to calculate it? They r going to abandon the droids anyway why not just do a Hail Mary? You risk nothing strategically and have everything to gain

You know they actually demonstrated ships smacking off of Vader's SD in Rogue one who were about to hyper but didn't get up to speed.

Also, if your read the High Republic books, it's very clear why having a damaged ship in hyperspace (whether it got there before or after taking damage) is severely dangerous, almost world ending.

I honestly don't hate the sequel trilogy. my only complaint is I feel like we could have avoided the Po mutiny and Finn side adventure, if Holdo even so much as hinted as having a plan.

Great explanation! The Last Jedi is still my favorite film of the Sequel Trilogy. Definitely did not deserve the flack that it got. Especially compared to Rise of Skywalker.

people forgetting that the great hyperspace disaster is a thing also everything bro said is correct, it's like lining up a nuke at close range, low chance you'll pull it off and it's a great manoeuvre

I always saw the Holdo maneuver was a war crime move so no one did it. Although I feel like Chopper attempted thos or did it once before

this is why they have astronavigational charts. in kotor 2 they mention that AN charts, especially in places where there's a lot of small bits like mining places or asteroid belts, are constantly 1/?

The problem with the Holdo maneuver is the existence of probe droids. Probe droids pods are hyperspace capable, so we know how small the lower bound is. Now you say that the shields are necessary for this to do enough damage, but small objects with enough momentum will do tremendous damage because physics, so there is absolutely no reason that capital ships wouldn't be hurling SWARMS of small projectiles at each other equipped with cheap hyperdrives, quantity being a quality all it's own after all.

Not to mention that this took place thirty or so years past the other movies. Maybe some new tech advance in hyperspace jumping also left this as a possibility

also it's almost like they didn't think to do it is the FX were good enough to do do it... ILM figured out how to create 3D in new hope but Lucas didn't like the look at the time

So now I have in my mind that Holdo once had a tipsy bar conversation with a friend about if this was possible and was roundly argued down. In this moment she saw her chance to have the best

I think the main problem with this is no one thought of doing this before like people LOVE making weapons out of things and it's just unrealistic that no one in that universe though-

I agree that your argument explains why the heroes don't do this but is there a need for a death star if the bad guys could do this maneuver to planetary cities? the empire doesn't care about 1/2

Manateeman2004 :
Why not just stick thrusters on an asteroid, turn of the failsafes, have a crew of droids to do rapid calculations and add some shields for damage? May not be easy but the empire built 2 death stars.

mybonly issue with Haldo is that she did what A LOT of poor leaders do and fail to inform her crew of NESSISARY info, they didn't need the whole plan, but enough to not go rouge and risk the bigger

your point about jumping too close won't do damage. don't we see that in Rogue One when Vaders Star Destroyer shows up? I might be wrong but I remember a scene where Rebels are fleeing and some jump-
