Also, imagine all of this when it is wet, icy, snowy, crowded, in a hurry or with less strength because not everyone who uses a chair has the same strength.

I have always felt that any one in city planning should use a mobility device for a one week minimum so they have a better understanding of what they need to do.

I feel like this should be a requirement of all planners/builders. like whoever is in charge should have to do an accessibility run though. like who designs grocery stores should have to go though one

best thing I saw in university, engineering class had to use a wheelchair for a day to get around campus. they really learned to think about everyBODY when they designed products

As someone who has mobility issues, it's frustrating when there are no real standards. Also, that ramp is considered legal and acceptable but clearly, there are obstacles still present.

keep in mind too this type of wheelchair requires good core and upper body strength, which not all users have. more supportive chairs only get bulkier and harder to navigate

every city should have its council members and mayor do a course like this

As someone who’s dad has become wheelchair bound, thank you for doing these test. He deserves to be able to get around as well

grew up living with a wheelchair bound grandfather, his ramp was so steep he had to use the handrails to get up and down it.

I was in a wheelchair in college. One of the ramps I had to use was so steep I couldn’t slow down and smashed into the wall at the end. 😅

also doors that are pressurized to swing back so you have to HOLD them open as it's pressing on the chair WHILE the person is trying to navigate getting inside. or they have a chair & a service dog.

What doorway has a ramp directly to it? Idk if I’ve ever seen one without a flat landing before the door

"sportier chair like that" IT IS A WHEELCHAIR. Just as a car is a car and a truck is a truck and a chair is a chair. it is a wheelchair.

One of the worst places I ever worked for accessibility was a hospital. The doors were heavy and snapped closed the second you let go of them.

Many people put their front wheels all the way to the curb when parking which puts the front of the car into the sidewalk. I try to make sure I.leave the sidewalk open after seeing a TikTok about it.

doors should have a bar on them with a rope to pull closed if they aren't automatic - at minimum. a platform instead of incline would also be helpful, so you aren't sliding down when trying to open.
