@cbsnews: All it took was an hour for the Hughes Fire to grow to 500 acres. In less than two hours, it had ripped through more than 3,400. Now, with high winds driving the flames, the fast-moving wildfire has exploded to more than 5,000 acres in the northwest Los Angeles County community, prompting mandatory evacuations and road closures — and it’s only continuing to spread. California Highway Patrol Officer Isabel Diaz described the situation as “a very active and chaotic scene” as she urge people to stay calm and listen to first responders. The fire comes as Los Angeles continues to battle the Palisades and Eaton Fires, which have yet to be fully contained. “[The Hughes Fire] does have a high potential for spread because we are looking at 32 mph winds as we speak,” LA County Fire Department Captain Sheila Kelliher Berkoh said. “Those winds are supposed to pick up as the afternoon progresses into the evening.” Follow @KCAL News for the latest on evacuations and updates from emergency officials.
