@kazuya_sukaloli123: Yamato (大和) was a battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy in World War II, and the flagship of the Combined Fleet. The name of this ship is taken from the name of Yamato Province. As the first ship in its class, the Yamato and its class, the Musashi, are the largest and heaviest battleships ever built. The ship weighed 72,800 tonnes fully laden, and was armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 in) main guns. This ship was built from 1939 to 1940 at the Kure Naval Arsenal, Hiroshima Prefecture, and was officially commissioned at the end of 1941. Throughout 1941, Yamato served as the flag ship of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. The ship first sailed as a member of the Combined Fleet during the Battle of Midway in June 1942. During 1943, Yamato was continuously transferred from Truk to Kure, and then to Brunei to avoid American air attacks on Japanese military bases. Yamato only ever fired its main cannon at an enemy target. That opportunity was presented to him in October 1944, but Yamato was quickly ordered home after attacks by destroyers and fighter planes from the escort carrier task force "Taffy" succeeded in sinking three heavy cruisers in the Battle of Samar Offshore.
