just did a block on one of these. the crack started from the where the head bolt screws in at all the way to the outside. internal and external leak.

That happens a lot in aluminum. Porosity. I’m sure there is an additive that can be added to the coolant to seal off the pinhole leak. Doesn’t need an engine.
