You dont understand diabetes unless you have it! Let me explain what this means by setting the stage for an example: You’re going to a cookout, and you’re HYPED…but also anxious, since you’re not hosting. You ask the host what is being served - ‘well, potluck style sides and burgers and hot dogs on the grill.’ And then your brain goes “do you eat ahead of time in case there’s too many high carb, high fat foods? Do you risk showing up hungry, knowing you may be surrounded by carb bombs? Then you notice your blood sugar creeping up before you leave…could that be your pump site? Your last meal? Nerves from the event?  You arrive, and there’s a LOT of food that is tough to navigate. Veggies with marinades. Heavy carb sides. No clear start time for the meal…when do you dose? And with all this, how can you also be present and ENJOY yourself?  This is just one example, but a good snapshot of the invisible mental load people with diabetes carry… So when I say you dont get it unless you have it, this is what I mean. #diabeteslife #diabetesawareness #t1dlife

About a month or two ago, a man dm’d me asking if I wanted to participate in an interview for his “f*ot f*tish blog.” This came out of no where with only a small conversation of putting one of my posts on his story about a week earlier. This hobby has been an outlet of creativity and stress relief and I am disgusted that I was treated like this.
