Anyone who says they prefer Lloyd’s version clearly didn’t pay attention to the lyrics. Swimming Pools isn’t a party anthem — it’s a song about alcoholism. Kendrick sounds “dry” on purpose because addiction, of any kind, often feels hollow and numb. Lloyd’s version, while vocally impressive, treats it like a karaoke track and completely misses the emotional weight. Sure, it sounds nice — but it doesn’t match the meaning at all.
