It's illegal to track someone with an airtag without their consent. It's even on the privacy rules when you purchase them.

On the update: he went to his home country for a friends wedding, her parents showed up without telling him and only called him at the airport. They then basically demand he be their chaperone and wouldn’t do anything without them. GF didn’t really do anything, after that, he dumped her bc he felt like she thought he was cheating
