I work for a school district as tech support and have considered teaching math but one of the first things that gets me is the large pay cut I'd be taking to do that. I don't even get paid insanely well to begin with, they get paid pennies.

I graduated in 97. I had 3 male teachers: band, music, geography (2 were football coaches). this isn't a new problem.

My son wanted to be a teacher but he couldn’t support a family on teacher pay. He would have made an amazing teacher. They need to increase teacher pay.
