I'm 18 turning 19 in a couple of months and the flu saved my life I had really bad flu symptoms and went to the ER and found out I had heart failure which shocked the hell out of me bc no one in my family has it so I spent two months in the hospital and now have an LVAD

The scariest shift of my ER life was a patient that rolled in with his LVAD screaming because it was about to die and he forgot his batteries and someone moved our back up. We got to him just in time

Just got my heart transplant back in March.I lived with an artificial heart for about a year. I always had to have someone with me 24/7 in case the machine faulted. These machines are so amazing.

What happens to the heart in the several seconds it takes when you’re disconnecting and reconnecting? Do you feel any physical symptoms when you do that?

I went 7 and half years. it's weird not having it I still think I'm gonna get stuck on the doorknobs lol. 19 months with my new heart. hang in there 💪
