The comments come the day after Trump said that the United States will "take over" Gaza and rebuild it in during a joint news conference with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump said the U.S. will “be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous, unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site,” level the destroyed buildings and create economic development in the area. When asked who he envisions living in Gaza after it is rebuilt, Trump said, “the world's people,” including Palestinians. On Wednesday, the White House faced backlash from U.S. lawmakers and allies who did not support the proposal, many saying Palestinians should be allowed to stay on their land and that it would make tensions in the region worse.
