They don't add that ridiculous amount in at the time you purchase your item? You have to pay the import fee at the time of delivery? 😬

Usually the import duty for clothes is less than 2% and regular VAT on top. The outrageous fees are for UPS to process it, but there’s carriers that charge less or don’t charge at all if you prepay it

A few things:
- part of the fee u paid is for UPS to process it
- your original order seems to have some.duty / VAT paid and UPS may have double charged you
tariff on apparel is MAX 8%.

Cause the 20% VAT is not included in the price . Add it (~8€) + ~3€ in import fee. Within Schengen, the price include the VAT. That why it LOOKS so expensive. But it’s not that bad in reality

This is why we have a family EU Amazon account for gifts. Family in the US can log into that, pick out what they want to buy us for a gift and it is shipped within the EU

In my whole life I only ordered once from outside a 0 import tax country. Ended up paying 150 in taxes for something that did not even fitted me, and I kept it anyway cause sending back cost too much.

If your order is less than 150€, you're supposed to only pay VAT (20%). If it's more, then you may also have to pay some custom duties. Most of what you're paying here is actually UPS fees I think.

Importing from outside the EU has been expensive for years, I've been looking into ordering a book from a specific bookstore, for the past 10 years or so, in the US and their shipping fee has always..

but isn't that the whole point that people will start to order domestically, in which case it might work! it might actually help with the environment!

This is why I never order US or AUS products. Sweden’s MOMs /import is high. Best to order to a family or friends address in US and have them ship a box with items to make it with it

American in Spain and it’s the same way here, my friends constantly ask to ship me things and I just tell them don’t even bother, just give me money, it’s easier for everyone

As a Canadian I understand this. Because of this I at least make the purchase worthwhile and make it a larger order and/or add friends to the order too 😭

100% of tax. That is why the US is going to apply 100% tax on all European goods.
