No one else made restraint feel that intimate.   Her softness became source code for future generations. I know you’ve heard them. The Fugees turned “Killing Me Softly” into one of the most celebrated hip-hop/R&B crossovers of the 1990s. Erykah Badu borrowed the core of “Feel Like Makin’ Love” for her neo-soul debut.
