I downloaded a free sample of the Talmud in English into my Kindle, I couldn’t understand anything. Most boring writing I’ve ever read, yet antisemites think we know it by heart. Perhaps I should assume every Christian can exorcise demons just like in The Exorcist, and in Latin as well.

that's why it's so fun to read though! even though I'm Christian, it's important to at least understand other religions, even if I disagree. (also the NT isn't completely devoid of that same gossip)

the Talmud shouldn't be taken at face value. there is virtually endless literary commentary. concerning R Yochanan, commentary clarifies it refers to his inner beauty.

My family used to listen to Focus On The Family on long car rides, and I remember one episode where Dr. James Dobson was interviewing a scholar of Jewish literature and Dobson commented something like “Where can I get a copy of the Torah? Because I’ve never read the Torah and I think more Christians should be reading these ancient Jewish texts.” and the scholar was like, “Um, well it’s the first five books of your bible. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy are the five books of the Torah, so I’m quite confident you’ve read them,” and I felt so much secondhand embarrassment for Dobson. I was shocked FotF didn’t bother to cut out that part of the conversation.

I love almost everything I've heard about it. A lot sounds funny, a lot sounds almost like fanfic (the filling in "plot holes" part), and I love that it's a debate. Much better than our way, IMO
