@pbsnews: Endometriosis affects millions, but can take years to diagnose. Here’s what to know Worldwide, 1 in 10 women of reproductive age suffer from a condition known as endometriosis. It’s an illness where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows in places it’s not supposed to be, and can lead to infertility, debilitating pain and financial hardship. Ali Rogin spoke with gynecologic surgeon Dr. Laura Homewood for our ongoing series, “Unequal Treatment.” #pbsnewshour #pbsnews #newshour #womenshealth #healthcare #endometriosis #reproductivehealthcare #uterus #gynecologist

My symptoms started when I was 17 and I saw probably 20 doctors, telling me I was perfectly fine and healthy. I got fired from my job because of it. I was finally diagnosed with endo when I had to

They normalized the pain growing up. They said our periods would hurt but not how badly. Plus a lot of our mothers had the same issues so they also thought that pain level was normal.

I have stage 4 and frozen pelvis syndrome. I’ve had multiple surgeries and then had total hysterectomy including removal or tubes and ovaries. THEN my right ovary regenerated, twice!!

The answer is not at all. Endometriosis is notoriously disregarded even tho it feels like chronic intermittent labor pain, at least to me, but may be the adenomyosis too

The biggest factor is doctors being lazy and refusing to listen to you. I've had 4 docs so far blow me off about my concerns regarding the pain, infertility, days of spotting throughout my cycle, etc
