READ DESCRIPTION👇🏼 1. Fake it until you make it: If you want to move up in a corporate setting, you need to know how to act in front of certain people. If your boss is very serious, you should act serious when you’re around them. Don’t turn into a completely different person, but you should learn pretty quickly how to get closer with people in your company who can vouch for you and give you leverage. Always be aware of who is around you, and adjust to it accordingly. Also, if you’re thinking about quitting, DO NOT TELL ANYONE until the day you submit your resignation letter. Rumors spread around the office like wildfire. 2. Your boss doesn’t care about you, they only care about the work you produce: Supervisors, managers, co-workers, everyone will tell you that they care about you and will always be there for you. Don’t fall for it. It’s their job to make you feel welcomed. Don’t fall for the trap that your supervisor wants to be friends with you. Under no circumstances should you over-share with them. Keep the relationship professional. If you are under performing at work, your boss won’t hesitate to get rid of you without notice. At the end of the day, your boss’s job is to do what’s best for the company. That’s what they get paid to do. Always remember that. 3. Some days you will be overwhelmed with work, some days you won’t have anything to do: Throughout the year, most office jobs will have a “busy time” and a “slow time.” For me, February-April was always really busy because we had to work on tax returns. May-July was really slow because most of my clients were out enjoying their summer. Understanding this timing can be important when you’re scheduling vacations, renovations, and other life events. Don’t plan your wedding during the busiest time of the year at your job. The stress will becoming extremely overwhelming, and it can take a toll on your mental/physical health. Embrace the boring days. You get paid the same amount regardless of how much work you’re actually doing. 4. You will begin to truly appreciate down time: The 40 hour work week will definitely wear you down over time, and there’s nothing better than relaxing at home for two straight days. I felt like a lot of my co-workers would always be planning trips or activities on the weekend, but personally I love rotting. Treat yourself to a special drink or dessert. If you’re on a salary, you get paid the same amount on the weekend that you get paid during the week. Enjoy your holidays too. Do your best to disconnect from your projects. 5. Only work hard when certain people are paying attention: You can do all the work in the world, but if it doesn’t get noticed, it doesn’t matter. Whenever you’re feeling ambitious, you can work overtime or turn a project around really quickly to get the attention of your boss. That’s great. But don’t work yourself super hard when you get a project from one of your co-workers. They don’t have the power to fire you or promote you, so why would you put all your effort into a project that they gave you? Work smarter, not harder. #fyp #corporate #job #tips #office
