🚨A mother and her son have been formally arraigned in connection with the homicide of 17-year-old London Thomas, whose body was found after she had been missing for nearly a month. Jalen Pendergrass, 23, of Inkster, and Charla Pendergrass, 49, of Clawson, were both charged Thursday. According to investigators, Thomas had been the girlfriend of Jalen Pendergrass. On April 5, 2025, Thomas was reported missing by her sister to the Inkster Police Department after she was last seen around 4:00 a.m. when she was dropped off at Jalen Pendergrass’ home in the 27260 block of Carlysle Street in Inkster. The next day, April 6, Thomas’ mother also reported her missing to the Detroit Police Department after she did not return home to Albert Street. She was not seen alive again after being at the Inkster home. On April 26, 2025, police received information from a male friend of Charla Pendergrass who said that on April 7, Charla called him and asked him to transport a sealed plastic bin with unknown contents. He said he placed the bin inside an SUV on Millard Street in Southfield on April 11. That same day, investigators executed a search warrant at the Southfield address, where they discovered Thomas’ body inside the SUV. The Oakland County Medical Examiner determined she died from asphyxia, and her death was ruled a homicide. According to prosecutors, the evidence shows that Jalen and Charla Pendergrass allegedly committed the homicide of Ms. Thomas and then tried to conceal the evidence. Both were arraigned Friday. Charla Pendergrass was given a $5 million bond, while her son, Jalen, was denied bond and remains held in custody. London’s father spoke after the arraignment, saying it was a moment the family had been waiting for. “I’m so angry and I’m so happy and satisfied at the same time. We all knew that they were pretty much responsible for what happened. So now we’re moving forward. We’re moving in the right direction, going for justice for London,” London’s father said after the hearing. “She’s dearly missed, everybody, her friends, they still call me to this day. They get everybody to miss her. So, just keeping her spirit alive and justice will be certain.”
